Elektrofoiling

Beitrag von torman » Mi 28. Jan 2009, 15:03

Hello!

I found this Forum when I was googling for hydro foiling. Many interesting topics to read. I'm actually not doing any sport with the air chair but very interesting in the hydro foil technique. The reason is that I'm working on a student project at the Royal school of Technologies in Stockholm. We are developing an environmental friendly combination of an air chair and a skiidoo. It uses a hydrofoil system and will be driven by a electric engine. The goal is to get it operate with a speed of 15 knots. We have a webpage http://www.evolo.se where you can see videos an pictures if you are interested. The language is mainly swedish but we'll translate more to english as soon as possible.

Best regards from Sweden

Hi
Hee that looks nice , wonder if when speed is enough you could jump it
thinking you want to get 15 knots , mini jumps should be possible.
In the future a gainer with higher speeds ?? :)
schade von maus, da drauf zu klicken :-)

Hi and thanks for the comment!

We have done some experiments with different types of foils and as you can see are we now using sort of a delta profile since we get a smother reaction from the lift force when changing the angle of attack. We did also try with normal naca-profiles but that doesn't work without an atomization system such as for example the dingy Blade rider uses, but on the other hand, we did experience some great jumps with the normal profile, but they were really involuntary and ended in a crash.

It would be interesting for med to know if someone at this Forum has made any measurements of the resistance from an air chair and at what speeds you normally lift from the surface?

Wow - that's great!!!
Take care for your body-position and spend some time on the foil itself (sharp edges and good wings!). I think you are a little too much in front of the foil - try to lean back carefully to get the foil out of the water (a half of your foil lenght) an then HOLD and SLIDE - don't push your body forwards. Try to ride it by slowly corrections of your bodies position!

Show us more and let us know, how it will work!

cheers,
